The real-time calculations are necessary for keeping plant managers up to speed on factors that could influence hydropower output.To meet the need for quality data tracking flow, officials at NIPSCO contracted engineers at LimnoTech, an environmental consulting company based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to devise a monitoring solution. Water Quality and Flow Monitoring

The University of Akron Field Station is located on the 411-acre Bath Nature Preserve in northeastern Ohio. It promotes a better understanding of our relationship with the natural environment through research, education, and service.Students, faculty, and Bath community members have been working for some time to gather long-term, baseline data on water quality, biological diversity, and climate of the preserve. Project administrators have chosen to use the NexSens WQData web datacenter as a solution to help manage this long-term data.In addition, Dr. Jessica Hopkins from the University of Akron has spearheaded a project to set up four real-time water quality and stream flow monitoring sites within the nature preserve. WQData allows researchers to compare this real-time data with historical data on a single, web-based user interface. This valuable information will improve monitoring capacities within the Cuyahoga Valley watershed and provide a better understanding of the overall environment.

The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, an interstate commission representing eight states and the federal government, has launched an Ohio River data buoy called the AMI (Advanced Measurement Initiative Buoy).ORSANCO needed to design and implement an early warning detection and water quality monitoring system for the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers in Pennsylvania. These two rivers supply drinking water for approximately 1.3 million residents throughout western Pennsylvania and are critically important to the state's well being.As the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers creates the Ohio River, it was imperative that a system be developed with the capability of detecting and tracking any possible contamination in either of the two tributaries. To achieve this, ORSANCO and NexSens Technology worked together to create a system that combines both human and automated efforts to establish an effective water quality monitoring program on the rivers.
